At the HEART of what we do here at Mom's Pantry is YOU
...and with that in mind, as Mom's Pantry approaches our second anniversary, we are making YOU the focal point of all that we do. Mom's Pantry has been on a bit of a roller coaster ride since our beginning, starting slow, building to a crescendo, and then hanging on for dear life as the speed increased and the hills and valleys passed by with a blur. We're settling into a nice even keeled ride at the moment. With the changes Facebook has made to how they share our posts with you, we've decided that it's time to revisit what our original purpose is, and that is simply: To Share.
When I first set up Mom's Pantry, I envisioned sharing recipes back and forth with my friends. They did sign up when I sent them a friend's request, but the sharing thing never did happen, until somehow the page ended up being discovered by the general public. I was so happy to have new people to share ideas, thoughts and recipes with. Some of them have come and gone over the past two years, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss seeing some of the familiar names that used to visit us around here. Thankfully we also continue to have new folks find us, and they've stopped awaile spend some time with us, and for that I'm most grateful. To celebrate our upcoming 2nd anniversary we are dedicating our year to You! Without you, there would be no Mom's Pantry -- and we want to make sure we include you at every step and turn along the way. We've excited about some of the ideas we've brewed and I am sure there will be more to come. Let's share what we've thought up so far: Mom's Pantry Friends Cookbook Timeline: Now until September 15 2014 We've got another full length cookbook that I've been working on, but the one I am most excited about putting together is one that involves YOU! It will be titled Tried and True & You! If I've learned anything over the two years I've been doing Mom's Pantry, it is that there is a wealth of information and recipes out there waiting to be discovered. We have the most eclectic group of home-cooks and I would love to bottle up that energy to make a special cookbook to commemorate our 2nd anniversary. Those who participate will get a free e-copy of their very own. We will be doing a hard cover version as well. It will be available at the end of September in time for our anniversary celebration! It is my hope we can get as many of you involved as possible to make this truly special! I love sharing recipes, but I love sharing other things too and I love that I've gotten to know some of you better as time goes on. Since we're already packed to the rafters at Mom's Pantry with recipes and tips, I thought I'd create this happy little place for us to get to know each other that much more, and to share things that are beautiful, kind, interesting, fun and uplifting. I hope you join me! LINK Mom's Pantry Friend of the Month Timeline: Beginning Now! We love it when you participate. Whether its sharing a recipe, commenting, liking or sharing a post or simply saying hello, lending a hand or giving a word of encouragement from time to time -- it all adds to the wonderful eclectic quilt that makes Mom's Pantry what it is, and we would like to celebrate those who go the extra mile. On the last day of the month we'll announce a Mom's Pantry Friend of the Month who has demonstrated the spirit of what we try to do here daily. That person will receive a free e-book of their choice, and a signed hard copy of that month's Digest in the mail, along with another little gift specifically selected by me. Secret Ingredients of the Week UPDATED: Timeline: Once a week - beginning in SEPTEMBER! If you've been with us for awhile you may recall our Secret Ingredient Days -- they were chaotic at times with so many ideas shared. It got to be too much to have a different one every day --- the ideas shared simply slipped off the wall as new ideas came, and our reader submissions and ideas got lost in a sea of blog posts. With lessons learned at the forefront of my brain, I'm going to try to revive it a bit -- with some changes. A) The Secret Ingredient will last for one week. (Sunday through to Saturday) On busy weeks or holidays we may skip a week. B) You may share recipes, ideas, tips etc pertaining to the ingredient on the thread designated for it (pinned to the top of the page) or you may submit your recipe/picture to me via private message or email (momspantry2011@gmail.com) C) I will compile everything on a page dedicated to that ingredient , the following week. This will allow you to search it on our website so you can easily find the recipe you're looking for. D) I will be reposting the thread once a day to remind and encourage people to participate. Christmas Cookie Exchange 2014 Our last holiday cookie exchange was very popular. We managed to raise money to make a few Christmas' happier for families in need. We hope to do that same thing this year. Holiday recipes can be sent at any time for the new edition, but we're officially going to begin on October 1st thru November 7th, 2014. Ecopies will be sent to all who participate. Hard copies will be available by November 21st for purchase. If you submitted last year, we ask that you submit a different recipe this year. Maximum recipes: 3 per person. Other ideas we've already implemented: SOS Reader Recipe Requests - Posted when we get a request from a member for help with a situation or recipe. Monthly digests - available in print form per month. Those who share recipes/photos during any given month will receive a free e-copy for that month. Be sure to pass on your email address so that this can happen. Special Projects - we're currently in the middle of our Summer Potluck project. There's still time to participate! Sending out a special thank you to Karen, Jean, Bernice and Jacqueline was have participated every week! Now that's participation!! We've also had a Remembering Mom project and a Cyber Chili Cook-off! There will be so much more coming up to celebrate You! We can't thank you enough for spending part of your day here with us!
