Ingredients
1 cup butter or oleo 1 cup water 2 cups sugar 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons flour 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional if using salted butter) 3 eggs 1/2 cup buttermilk 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 tablespoons vanilla
Frosting: 1/2 cup butter or oleo 1/4 cup milk 1 tablespoon vanilla 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts 1 pound-box powdered sugar (or weigh it yourself)
Bring butter and water to boil. Remove from heat. Add sugar, flour, and salt. Mix well. Add eggs, buttermilk with baking soda mixed in, and vanilla, mixing well after each addition. Bake in greased and floured jelly-roll pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Frost immediately on removal from oven. Frosting: Bring butter and milk to boil. Remove from heat and add powdered sugar, vanilla, and chopped nuts. Mix well. Put on cake while hot.
