4-6 chicken breasts (I used 4 large) 1 c brown sugar, packed 2/3 c apple cider vinegar 1/4 c Sprite or other lemon-lime soda (I used diet and it turned out fine) 2 - 3 tbsp minced garlic (or use 2 tsp dry garlic powder) 2 tbsp soy sauce 1 tsp pepper 2 tbsp corn starch 2 tbsp water
red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
Place chicken pieces inside of your slow cooker.
In a bowl mix together brown sugar, vinegar, soda, garlic, soy sauce, and pepper. Pour it over chicken. Turn crock pot on low and cook for 6-8 hours or on high for 4 hours. (I did mine on high for 4)
Remove chicken from sauce, shred into pieces, and set aside in a bowl. Strain remaining sauce into a saucepan and turn burner to high.
Combine cornstarch and water in a cup and pour into the saucepan. Mix well with a whisk until it boils. Remove from heat. Pour thickened glaze over shredded chicken and mix well. You may add red pepper flakes for extra heat if desired. I didn't.
