Stuffed Peppers
Stuffed Peppers is a recipe every home cook should have in his/her repertoire. Including prep, dinner could be ready in under and hour and a half!
Ingredients
1/2 cup long grain rice, dry 1 cup water 1 lb hamburger 3 large green peppers 2 (8 oz) cans tomato sauce 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 1/4 tsp garlic powder 1/4 tsp onion powder dash salt and pepper 1 tsp Italian seasoning 3/4 cup shredded Italian cheese dried oregano
Add rice and water to a sauce pan. Heat until boiling. Cover and reduce heat to a simmer. Cook for 20 minutes and then remove from heat.
Scramble fry the ground beef and add in Worchestershire sauce, garlic and onion powders and salt and pepper. Remove from heat and add rice. Add 1 can of the tomato sauce. Mix well.
Cut peppers in half and remove stems, seeds and membrane. Place open side up in 9x13 pan.
Spoon ground beef mixture into each pepper, pressing down slightly.
In a small bowl, combine the remaining can of tomato sauce, with the Italian seasoning. Baste the top of each pepper with this mixture.
Put in the oven, uncovered at 400F.
Baste with the tomato sauce at 15 minute and 30 minute mark, returning to the oven. At the 45 minute mark, baste with tomato sauce once again, and then sprinkle each pepper with the Italian chese and a bit of the dried oregano.
