This 1945 edition has been in Mr Mom's family for decades. Its well worn, with hand written adaptations in the margin. Just the kind of cookbook I love!
1 cup brown sugar 2 tbsp flour few grains of salt 1 cup water juice of 1 lemon grated rind of 1 lemon 1 cup raisins pastry
Mix together sugar, flour and salt. Add water and lemon juice and mix well.
Stir in lemon rind and raisins and cook over hot water for 15 minutes.
Cool and pour into a pie plate lined with pastry. Cover with a top crust, or with strips of pastry, lattice fashion. Bake in hot oven, (450F) for first 10 minutes, then reduce to 350F for 30-40 minutes longer.
