I love pasta sauce. It's so versatile from the types of pastas you can use it with, to the types of protein you add to it. I've added ground beef this time around, but ground turkey, and diced chicken breast would work too.
Easy to make, and if you make a large batch (or two) it freezes well to make those busy day meals even better!
1 lb hamburger, ground turkey or diced boneless chicken breast 1/2 cup onion, sliced 1/2 cup sweet peppers, sliced thin 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 (14 oz) can diced tomatoes 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce 1 jar of your favorite pasta sauce 1 jar (4 1/2 oz) sliced mushrooms (optional) 1 tsp Italian seasoning 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp dried oregano 1/4 tsp pepper 1-2 tsp Worcestershire sauce 2-3 tbsp brown sugar 1 tsp dried basil
pasta of your choice
Directions:
Brown beef (or chicken or turkey) *using a small amt of oil if needed. Drain if required. Set aside.
In the same pan, saute onions, garlic and peppers. Add in tomatoes and sauces and seasoning. Add in Worcestershire sauce and brown sugar. Allow to simmer for 20 minutes. Add meat back to the pan. Season to taste.
I like to simmer mine for a bit longer, and I'll add in fresh herbs if they are in season from my garden. Today I supplemented a little fresh in with the dried herbs.
