Mom's BBQ Sauce (aka Copycat Sweet Baby Rays)
Mom says: This recipe came to me as a copycat version of our family favorite BBQ sauce - Sweet Baby Rays. I say its even better, because when you make it homemade you add an additional ingredient -- LOVE.
Ingredients
1 1/4 cups ketchup 1 cup dark brown sugar 1/4 cup molasses 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar 1/4 cup water 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 2 1/2 tsp dry mustard 2 tsp paprika 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1/4-1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (this is optional - I leave it out) 1 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp pepper
1/8 cold water mixed with 1 tbsp corn starch (optional - I do add this because I like my sauce thick)
Combine all the ingredients in a sauce pan except for the final cold water/cornstarch mixture. Bring to a boil, then turn the heat down to a simmer for five minutes so that the sugar is dissolved.
If you like a thicker sauce ( like me) add the cornstarch slurry. Simmer while it thickens, but watch it carefully as it will thicken very fast.
