Black Cat Brownies
Ingredients
1 package semisweet chocolate pieces, chopped 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup milk 2 tbsp shortening 1/2 tsp salt 2 cups quick cooking rolled oats 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts 1 egg, slightly beaten 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
Instructions
Grease baking pan. 8x8x2
Combine chopped semisweet chocolate pieces, sugar, milk and shortening and salt in top of double boiler; cook over hot water, stirring occasionally, until chocolate is melted and mixture is well blended; remove from heat.
Stir in rolled oats, walnuts, egg and vanilla.
Pour batter into prepared cake pan, spreading it to all corners.
Bake in moderate oven (350F) 30 to 35 minutes, or until center springs back when lightly pressed with fingertip.
Cool brownies in pan on wire cake rack, 5 minutes; loosen around edges with sharp knife. cut into bars or squares and remove from pan; cool on cake racks. Store in airtight container. Put piece of waxed paper between layers.
